Everything You Need To Know

What is Regulatory Telematics?

Regulatory telematics is a technology that facilitates the controlled sharing of vehicle and road usage information between transport operators, road managers, and government entities. The technology is administered under the National Telematics Framework (NTF) by Transport Certification Australia (TCA), a government body.

Certified Providers

Certified Application Service Providers (ASPs), like V-DAQ, play a pivotal role in helping transport operators meet their regulatory obligations under the NTF. We undergo rigorous certification and type-approval of our telematics hardware to meet the high-assurance standards, ensuring the data reported to the NTF is both reliable and of high quality.

Applications

Within the National Telematics Framework, there are three regulatory telematics applications: Road Infrastructure Monitoring (RIM), Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA), and the Intelligent Access Program (IAP). Each application is designed with specific hardware, data reporting, privacy, and operational features tailored to different needs.

Schemes

Schemes define the requirements for specific vehicle types or freight activities where regulatory telematics is applied. These schemes guide transport operators in understanding their regulatory telematics requirements, ensuring that they meet the necessary conditions for road access.

Which Application is for you?

Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA)

Using a TMA tracker, which collects detailed location and time data, the TMA program provides road managers and authorities with tools to enhance road access and compliance management. When necessary, the telematics device also integrates weight data from Smart On-Board Mass (OBM) systems, enhancing the detail and accuracy of its analytics tools.

Intelligent Access Program (IAP)

The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) provides road managers with tools to monitor road access using telematics data. It actively monitors heavy vehicle operations against predefined conditions set by road managers or regulators.

When a vehicle violates location, time, or speed conditions, the IAP generates non-conformance reports (NCRs) with evidentiary-quality information, guiding corrective actions. The IAP uses identified location, time, and speed data from type-approved telematics devices.

Nationally, IAP systems are being phased out in favor of TMA systems.
