The company is a major Australian transporter of bulk liquids, specialising in dairy, food‑grade liquids, and both DG (Dangerous Goods) and non‑DG chemicals. Operating a large and complex fleet, the business manages approximately 300 prime movers and more than 700 trailers, supporting customers across all mainland states and territories.

With a strong reliance on high‑productivity vehicles, the operation plays a critical role in national supply chains where safety, compliance and efficiency are essential.

Challenge

As a heavy user of PBS (Performance-Based Standards) equipment, the business previously relied on a traditional IAP‑based approach that became increasingly difficult to manage at scale. Installation processes were complex, and data flows were fragmented, creating operational inefficiencies.

As the HPFV (High Productivity Freight Vehicles) fleet expanded, compliance management became more time‑consuming and manual. Significant effort was required to cross‑check data for potential breaches, increasing administrative workload and adding operational risk as the fleet continued to grow.

Solution

The business has consistently embraced new technologies that deliver efficiency and ease of use. Following an introduction to V‑DAQ during a PBS session at a VTA industry event, the team trialled the technology and determined it was a strong fit for their operational needs.

Building on the success of the initial trial, the business progressively expanded its deployment. Today, V‑DAQ TMA and Smart On‑Board Mass regulatory solutions are used across the vast majority of the fleet. Implementation has been supported through close collaboration with V‑DAQ account teams, including installation, activation, training and ongoing operational support as requirements continue to evolve.

Results

Since partnering with V‑DAQ, the business has expanded the number of Higher Mass Limit routes it can confidently and compliantly operate on, supporting greater productivity across its PBS fleet.

Operational oversight and compliance management have improved through more reliable data and reduced reliance on manual checking processes. This has lowered administrative effort, supported safer operations, and enabled the fleet to scale without adding unnecessary complexity.

Summary

The McColls business describes V‑DAQ as a responsive and practical partner that is easy to work with and consistently supportive, even when last‑minute changes or installations are required. Ongoing product innovation and a strong understanding of operational realities have reinforced confidence in the partnership and its long‑term value.
