Optimising national milk haulage through real‑time vehicle tracking and operational intelligence

SRH Milk Haulage is a leading bulk milk logistics provider operating nationally across Australia. The business services major dairy processors including Lactalis, Norco, Saputo, Brownes and Bega, delivering critical supply chain support to the dairy industry.
‍
SRH manages a fleet of approximately 100 milk tankers, transporting more than 4.5 million litres of milk every day across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
‍
Operations are highly time‑sensitive and complex, involving daily farm milk collection, linehaul movements between processing facilities, and strict compliance with food safety, temperature and timing requirements. The business operates within tightly constrained factory intake windows, where delays at a single site can have cascading impacts across the wider network.
Prior to partnering with V‑DAQ, SRH Milk Haulage faced growing challenges as its operations continued to scale. Limited real‑time visibility made it difficult to accurately track tanker movements, arrival and departure times at farms and factories, and the impact of delays across the network.
‍
Managing demurrage at constrained sites such as Lidcombe and South Brisbane was particularly challenging, with delayed or incomplete data impacting cost recovery and reporting accuracy. Manual data capture increased administrative workload and limited SRH’s ability to make proactive, data‑driven decisions.
‍
These challenges reduced fleet utilisation efficiency, created flow‑on impacts to next‑day collections and linehaul schedules, and contributed to frustration for drivers, customers and operations staff due to unclear communication and delayed updates.
As SRH continued to grow its national footprint, it became clear that existing manual processes and fragmented visibility were no longer sustainable. The business required a solution that could deliver real‑time operational insight, improve data accuracy, support compliance, and integrate seamlessly with existing workflows.
‍
SRH partnered with V‑DAQ to deploy a telematics and fleet intelligence solution across its tanker fleet. The implementation included in‑vehicle telematics units (V-DAQ TAGs), real‑time Fleet Tracking, automated capture of key operational timestamps, monitoring of driver behaviour and safety indicators, and a centralised dashboard for operations and management teams.
‍
The rollout was delivered through a staged approach, beginning with a pilot installation to validate data accuracy and usability, followed by a progressive rollout across the full fleet. V‑DAQ provided structured onboarding, training for operational staff, and ongoing technical support, enabling rapid adoption and consistent use of the intuitive platform across the business.
Since implementing V‑DAQ, SRH Milk Haulage has achieved a significant improvement in operational visibility and control across its national fleet. Real‑time tracking has enhanced the ability to manage factory delays, calculate demurrage accurately, and communicate reliable ETAs to customers and sites.
‍
Improved data accuracy has reduced reliance on manual data entry and reconciliation, supporting better scheduling decisions and more efficient fleet utilisation. The business has also gained clearer insight into network bottlenecks, including site congestion and processing limitations, enabling proactive intervention before delays escalate.
‍
From a compliance and safety perspective, V‑DAQ has strengthened monitoring of driver behaviour, fatigue indicators and vehicle loading, supporting regulatory compliance and improved risk management. Increased confidence in reporting has also improved billing accuracy and operational analysis.
SRH Milk Haulage values V‑DAQ as a responsive and collaborative technology partner with a strong understanding of transport operations. Ongoing support and a willingness to adapt to operational needs have played a critical role in the success of the deployment.
“V‑DAQ has given us a level of visibility across our fleet that we simply didn’t have before. In an operation where timing is everything, having real‑time data allows us to make better decisions, reduce delays, and improve outcomes for both our drivers and customers.”
