What is a High Productivity Freight Vehicle (HPFV) in Victoria?

In Victoria, a High Productivity Freight Vehicle (HPFV) is a heavy vehicle combination that

  • Exceeds 26 metres in length, and/or
  • Has a GCM in excess of 68.5 tonne, or

*Quad-axle semi-trailers that exceed 46.5 tonnes are also HPFV's.

What are the new telematics requirements for HPFV's operating in Victoria?

Vehicles that operate under 68.5T GCM on the PBS Level 2B Network:

TMA (or alternatively IAP).

Vehicles that operate over 68.5T GCM:

TMA and Smart On-Board-Mass (OBM)

Quad-axle semi-trailers that exceed 46.5 tonnes GCM:

TMA and Smart On-Board-Mass (OBM).

What is the deadline for being equipped with these new telematics requirements?

VicRoads have stated a November 1st 2021 deadline for existing HPFV's to meet these new telematics conditions. However, new HPFV's need to meet these updated telematics conditions immediately.

The Multi-State Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicles Dimension Exemption Notice allows eligible Class 1 load carrying vehicles in NSW to operate up to 5.0m wide, 5.0m high, 30.0m long and 7.5m rear overhang on approved (state owned) routes in NSW, and in compliance with the conditions of the Notice and this Operator’s Guide.
