New telematics requirements for HPFV and mobile cranes in VIC

In Victoria, a High Productivity Freight Vehicle (HPFV) is a heavy vehicle combination that exceeds 26 metres and/or has a GCM in excess of 68.5 tonne.

The Victoria Government has updated the telematics requirements for high-productivity freight vehicles (HPFV) to include smart on-board mass (OBM) systems. It is also offering an alternative to Intelligent Access Program (IAP) for HPFV and mobile crane operators called TMA (Telematics Monitoring Application).

  • No on-board mass required
  • No installation costs
  • Lower overall cost
  • Simple implementation

Data shared:

  • Time and Date (every 30s)
  • Vehicle Position (every 30s)
  • Vehicle Registration

TMA (or IAP) and Smart OBM are a requirement for HPFV's to operate in Victoria by 1st November 2021.

The Multi-State Class 1 Load Carrying Vehicles Dimension Exemption Notice allows eligible Class 1 load carrying vehicles in NSW to operate up to 5.0m wide, 5.0m high, 30.0m long and 7.5m rear overhang on approved (state owned) routes in NSW, and in compliance with the conditions of the Notice and this Operator’s Guide.

Exempts class 1 heavy vehicle combinations consisting of a prime mover and approved trailers, including dollies if required, from certain mass and dimension requirements under the HVNL. In addition, this notice exempts certain specialist vehicles such as block trucks that are used to assist the operation of class 1 combinations.
